31 May 2013 - 03 June 2013
Blue Jean Country Queen Festival is a Macra na Feirme event that has been running for 25 years. Queens gather from many counties & nations to represent their youth organisations. From Friday through to Monday, this weekend offers a range of daytime & evening events with something for young & old alike. On Friday, the Queens meet at a local farm to get to know each other and the area through icebreaker activities and later are interviewed on stage followed by a disco. On Saturday there will be tag rugby, a children's art competition, a crafts fair and a free street carnival to entertain crowds while the Queens are interviewed individually by judges. A game of 'Who can get all of the Queens' signatures?' keeps the children busy, and makes the Queens really feel like royalty. Karaoke leads into a pub crawl with live music in many venues of the town throughout the night. On Sunday, the girls get stuck into a fancy dress football match on the local Fair Green. Visitors to the area are invited to bring a picnic and avail of fresh local produce from the surrounding Farmer's Market. Family games, clowns and bouncing castles, along with side shows from local clubs keep the crowds entertained while the Queens make some quick changes into casual and formal outfits for the modelling competition. The announcements for the winning Queens take place after a delicious banquet. The girls don their jeans and dance into the night and next day with a choice between two live bands and a disco. The event finishes on Monday with even more live music and dance! Queens & supporters gather for lunch before heading for home.
