A weekend of river-based fun, sport, music and dancing for all the family on the River Barrow. While most of the activities will obviously be based around the river Barrow, the main ‘dryland’ event will be the big top dances. The festival organisers are planning on people reliving the golden era of ballroom dancing from the 40s through to the 1970s. Why not get afloat, splash out and have fun at- • Canoeing, • Cheer on the boats in the Barrow Challenge on Saturday, • Get a board a boat trip, • See the Barrow from above in a Hot Air Balloon • Circus antics, music, games, pirates and lots of fun! A Circus Big Top is being specially adapted to recreate the atmosphere of the Marquee and Ballroom dancing eras. On Friday,, September 11, a 16-piece big band will play the music of everyone from Glen Miller, Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw to vocal standards by artists like Sinatra and Johnny Cash. The band will be composed of musicians from across the south east under the baton of ex-Garda Band member, Billy Byrne. One of the highlights of the festival will be the performance on Saturday, September 12, of the Kilfenora Ceili Band. Wexford will be represented at the festival on Sunday, September 13, when the famous Davitt Showband take to the festival stage.
