Belmullet

22 September 2012

The Swim: The swim will take place in Blacksod. It starts on left side of pontoon at 10.00 and will consist of a one-wave start. The competitors will exit the water on right side of pontoon and make their way along beach to ramp to enter transition. The Bike: The bike route will be 40 kilometres in length and will be an out and back course. The cyclist will exist the transition and will proceed on up the Belmullet road. The cyclists stay on this road to the sea wall on the outskirts of Belmullet, where there will be a turn around point and then they will continue on the return leg to Blacksod. Competitors must have a roadworthy bike and wear a hard helmet, drafting rules apply to the cycle. The drafting rule means that cyclists may not be closer than 7 metres from the front wheel of the cyclist in front of them, unless passing, which must be done quickly. There will not be groups of cyclists racing along the course. The Run: On completing the bike section, cyclists will dismount the bike at the dismount line before entering transition. Helmets must remain on until the bike is racked. The run will be a 10 kilometres out and back run leaving from the transition. Runners will leave the transition and will immediately turn left up the hill towards Deirbhles Twist, from there they will continue towards the graveyard at Falmore, then on the open area for a cross country leg which leads them back out on the road for the graveyard, and they will return along the main road towards Blacksod. The finish line will be located below the transition area towards Blacksod Pier.
