Gaelforce West is the largest one day adventure race of its kind in the world. The course of approximately 65km stretches from the stunning Glassilaun beach, south-west of Killary Harbour to Westport. En route there are some significant obstacles to cross, including Killary Fjord itself and the famous holy mountain of Croagh Patrick. The event is designed for solo competitors but you can also run it will a friend or training partner. The course breakdown is as follows; Stage 1: Beach, Trail and Road Run 12km Stage 2: Kayaking across Killary Harbour 1.6km Stage 3: Trail and Road Run 3.5km Stage 4: Cycling 32.5km Stage 5: Mountain Run/Hike 4.5km Stage 6: Cycling 12.5km Adventure Racing is one of the fastest growing sports on Earth and Ireland now joins Costa Rica, Borneo, the US and the UK with the establishment of Gaelforce West. Gaelforce West provides competitors with a significant personal challenge. You will get wet, tired, mucky and training for this race is a must.
