The Carlingford National Leprechaun Hunt

Carlingford

07 April 2013

Leprechaun Hunt invites you all to Ireland's last known leprechaun habitat, the Slieve Foy Mountain. It was awarded a Special Protection Area in 2010 for Little People, by the EU. To celebrate this protection of the last remaining 236 leprechauns in the whole of Ireland, Carlingford, Co.Louth, holds this annual ceramic leprechaun hunt. Nobody is allowed to walk on the protected area, which is fenced off to protect the little folk and 100 ceramic leprechauns are placed in a designated area with rewards under each one. The total value is €2000! To participate, hunters assemble on the Carlingford Green between 1pm and 2pm, purchase a hunting licence for €5 and then follow the pipe band to the mountain gate. At least 3.000 people participated last year. Profits go to Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin.
