Cúirt International Festival of Literature/ Féile Idirnáisiúnta Litríochta

Galway City

23 April 2013 - 28 April 2013

Cúirt International Festival of Literature is Ireland's premier writer's festival. Every April the best Irish and international authors gather in Galway for a weeklong festival. Cúirt, located in the most westerly city in Europe, has hosted writers, poets, playwrights, songwriters and facilitates readings, workshops, discussions, debates and lectures in all aspects of the written word. The festival takes place in a city perched on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean where the ancient Gaelic language rubs shoulders with and influences its more modern counterpart English. Galway City is the meeting point for the people from the west in Connemara and the Aran Islands and it has a rich literary hinterland. The landscape of the west of Ireland has always inspired visual artists but it is the same views and the culture of the people that have produced the writings of Yeats, Lady Gregory, J M Synge, and Liam O' Flaherty. These writers still inspire and the landscape they lived in is virtually the same today. From O' Flaherty's wild cliffs, Lady Gregory's Coole Park to Yeats bee-loud glade the West of Ireland provides substance, inspiration and company for writer and artists. Cúirt is a friendly festival where the writers and public meet in a convivial atmosphere to talk and interact against a background of energy and excitement in Irelands most multicultural City.
