Nenagh Silent Film Festival

Nenagh

14 February 2013 - 17 February 2013

This Valentine’s Weekend – love the Nenagh Silent Film Festival! Why not experience a festival with a difference, one that not only recreates the nostalgic atmosphere of a golden era of cinema, but also brings a hidden cinema making art form to the heritage town of Nenagh in north County Tipperary. To be hosted in the North Tipperary heritage town of Nenagh, the inaugural Nenagh Silent Film Festival will be held from February 14th – 17th, 2013 and will be an opportunity for lovers everywhere to rub shoulders with film enthusiasts and film makers in experiencing a festival with a difference. The Nenagh Silent Film Festival will be a unique festival that will not only bring one of the golden ages of Hollywood back to life, but will showcase modern film making techniques, while highlighting the importance of silent film in the modern era. Some of the events that will be hosted include several linked presentations by our guest speakers, film making workshops, Valentine themed events, a masked ball, a silent disco, a silent movie themed parade, token talkies, an awards ceremony, street theatre, music concerts and much more. This events programme of the Nenagh Silent Film Festival will be held in several different locations, ranging from the very modern Nenagh Arts Centre, other popular local establishments and throughout the streets of Nenagh itself. The Nenagh Silent Film Festival initiative is continuously growing from strength to strength and based on some of the comments offered after recent fund raisers based on silent film screenings, the Nenagh Silent Film Festival is an event that shouldn’t be missed: “Thank you so much for organising such an incredible event, looking forward to the festival next year, it’s going to be amazing.” “Thank you so much for a great night; really enjoyed the movie and the craic and meeting everyone. Thank You. x” Further thumbs up for the Nenagh Silent Film Festival come from Minister of State Alan Kelly TD: “innovation is key when considering local tourism. New ideas and the commitment from local community to come together and to challenge themselves for the benefit of their locality is hugely admirable.” And also from the Fair City actor Tony Tormey (Paul Brennan): “Rex Ingram was one of the first Irishmen to make an impact on world cinema. He paved the way for John Ford and the many Irish talents who came after. To honour him like this in Nenagh is a great tribute to one of our own.”
