Westport Food Festival is a three day event to be held the weekend 21 - 23 September. The family friendly festival programme will incorporate day and evening events in and around chosen venues across Westport Town, Murrisk and the quays, with activities to suit all demographics. Festival highlights: food village on the mall, wine and cheese tasting events, young chef competition, celebrity chef competition, cookery demos with renowned chefs, cookery workshops, seafood foraging, farm to table demos, tasting menus, festival menus. Westport is renowned for its high quality, award winning restaurants. It already boasts one of Ireland's top chefs, Seamus Commins, Knockranny House Hotel, among others. A major festival theme will be - meet Mayo food heroes. A strong festival focus will be on west of Ireland food with a huge emphasis on provenance, fresh fish, game, cheese, red meats, fruits and vegetables. Its unique coastal location makes it ideal as a culinary destination with readily available seafood The vision for Westport is to become domestically and internationally renowned for its food and branded as an all year round food destination with the festival as its anchor event.
