E & R Events are delighted to announce that the Ironman 70.3 Galway will take place in and around the scenic city of Galway, on the 2nd September, 2012, with a spectacular finish in Eyre Square. The race will mark the second Ironman event in Galway. The race begins between the seaside village of Salthill and the famous ancient Claddagh fishing village around which the city of Galway grew. After the 1.9k swim in Galway Bay, the athletes will take on the challenge of the 90k bike course, leading them through the lovely countryside, taking in views of Connemara and the Burren along the way. On the spectator-friendly run course (21.lk) through Galway City with its many pedestrianised streets, athletes pass a number of Galway's iconic landmarks, finishing under the grand stands of John F Kennedy Park, better known locally as Eyre Square. The Ironman 70.3 triathlon event is the world's premium triathlon event. Ironman has a global footprint consisting of 31 events around the world that qualify athletes for the Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater every November. The events cater for male and female professional non professional athletes of all ages and abilities. Ironman 70.3 race consists of a 1.9-km swim / 90-km bike / 21.1-km run.
