Verdi 200 - Wexford Sinfonia & Wexford Choirs present Verdi's Requiem
Wexford Town
01 June 2013
Wexford Sinfonia Orchestra with special guests Enniscorthy Choral Society, Gorey Choral Group, Vocaré and Wexford Festival Singers, present this special event to mark the 1813 birth of the Italian romantic composer Giuseppe Verdi. The concert takes place in the O' Reilly Theatre in Wexford Opera House. Requiem was composed in memory of Alessandro Manzoni, an Italian poet and novelist much admired by Verdi. In its vigorous rhythms, sublime melodies, and dramatic contrasts, similar to his Operas, Verdi expresses the powerful emotions engendered by occasion. Interpreting this piece is the acclaimed conductor Fergus Sheil whose recent successes include Wide Open Opera's 'Tristan Und Isolde' in the 2012 Dublin Theatre Festival. Concert Partners: Enniscorthy Choral Society (founded 1993) with Musical Director Donagh Wylde; Gorey Choral Group (founded 1977) with Musical Director Donagh Wylde; Vocaré (founded 2007) with Musical Director Sue Furlong; Wexford Festival Singers (founded 1975) with Musical Director Eithne Corrigan; and Wexford Sinfonia (founded 1993) with Conductor Fergus Sheil.
