Inishbofin Set Dancing & Trad Weekend

The weekend will begin with the 'Lough Erne Céilí Band' playing at the 9.00pm céilí in the Community Centre on Friday evening. The 'Lough Erne Céilí Band' is made up of ten experienced musicians including Kevin Abeyta from Inishbofin and other members from counties Leitrim, Fermanagh and Clare. Rosie Stewart, a past winner of the TG4 Gradam for the best traditional singer is the singer with this band. Saturday begins with a Festival Mass at 1.00pm at which visiting and local musicians and singers will perform. There will be a Set Dancing Workshop at 3.00pm in the Community Centre which will be instructed by Mick Mulkerrin. The Workshop will focus mainly on The Inishbofin Half Set. Mick is one of the most highly regarded set dancing / sean nós tutors and his expertise is much in demand on both sides of the Atlantic. This workshop will cater for all dancers, whether you're just a beginner or more advanced and only want to refresh your steps. There will be a second céilí at 9.00pm in the Community Centre with music by the 'Rise The Dust Céilí Band'. The céilí will provide dancers with the opportunity of dancing all the dances learnt and practiced at the saturday workshop. The Inishbofin Half Set again will be the highlight of the céilí with audience participation encouraged for this dance. Rise the Dust Céilí Band consists of three high profile musicians and all three are from the Longford area. The band is very popular in set dancing circles and is well travelled around Ireland. Sunday starts with a sean nós workshop at 12.00pm in the Community Centre which will be tutored by Mick Mulkerrin. Followng the two hour workshop there will be a Sean Nós Dance Competition for all age groups - this will be held in The Inishbofin House Hotel with live music provided by accordion player, Brendan Doyle. All throughout the weekend there is also an 'Around the Island & Mind the Dresser' pub trail, which has the best of musicians, both visiting & local, to play in the various pubs around the island for those eager dancers.
