Ballynoe Stone Circle is a megalithic monument near Downpatrick where a 100ft stone circle encloses an ellipse of stones and a prehistoric burial mount. Dated to around 2000BC, it is thought the stone circles were begun in the Stone Age and continued in use into the Bronze Age.
The outer ring, about 35yds across, consists of huge, close set stones, many standing 6ft tall above ground level. Other stones have fallen and a few more are scattered around the field.
