The Thierafurth, South Down's oldest inn, was formerly a halfway house between Newry and Downpatrick. In the nineteenth century it was also used as an overnight stop for prisoners on their way to trial in Downpatrick.
The restaurant, which opened in 2005, has a traditional decor and overlooks Lough Island Reavy.
Children are welcome, and there is an enclosed beer garden alongside the restaurant at the rear.
The Inn is three miles from Castlewellan on the A25 going towards Rathfriland. It is also only about two miles from both Castlewellan and Tollymore forest parks, and within half a mile there is Drumena Cashel and Soutterain, one of Ireland's oldest and best preserved examples of such ancient buildings.
There is ample car parking space with easy access for both cars and buses.
Music/Entertainment: Played on Fridays or Saturdays mostly in summer and on feature week-ends
