Aran Islands Cliffs Day Tour

The Native Tour of the Aran Islands, departs Galway Coach Station, at 09.30 and returns at 17.30. We travel out the coast road to Rossaveal (R336) and board the passenger ferry for the 40 minutes sailing to Inishmore, the largest of the three Aran Islands. We arriva at Kilronan harbour, a place where age old traditions are still used every day. We journey through the first of fourteen villages with many stops where we will view its Celtic crosses and its rugged limestone walls and pastures, thatched cottages. We then arrive at Kilmurvey Village, the base of Dun Aonghasa fort and cliffs. This is the world's most preserved heritage site 2500bc. Dun Aonghasa stands on a 300ft cliff edge overlooking the Atlantic Ocean where you taste, smell and breathe the history of past, present and future. You can then explore the craft village, shops and thatched restaurants where friendly locals love to share stories. Next to visit are the seven churches, a place renowned for its saints, scholars and poets, built in the 7th to 8th Century, as Gaelic pilgrimages did before. We then go on to Bungowla, the smallest village, to view Maggie Danin's cottage overlooking the sea. Then, back the low road by Man of Aran where the film made by Robert Flaherty in 1942, and past Kilmurvey Blue Flag Beach towards the seal colony where we come in contact with nature as we take our journey back to Kilronan harbour.
