Loughs Tay And Dan
Roundwood
Wicklow
-
Ireland East
Lough Dan lies to the west of Roundwood, which is the highest village in Ireland. The lake can be accessed via a cul-de-sac road. Park the car there and take the beautiful walk, which overlooks the lake and the Cloghoge River, which links Lough Tay and Lough Dan. The walk descends to the river valley below. Another and much more satisfying way to get to Lough Dan is via a forest trail on the Sally Gap - Roundwood Road, where the walk takes you through the valley between the two lakes. The views from the high road are magnificent while the low road runs along the Cloghoge River. A circuit can be completed here between the two roads if the walker is prepared to get their feet wet when Lough Dan is reached, as the river here can easily be forded. Although Lough Tay can be seen from the road and the high trail there is no access to the lakeshore as the land is private.
