In the mid 1400.s the English were fully occupied in the Hundred Years War.To compensate for their military absence from Ireland a limited number of government grants of 10 pounds were made available to landowners in the Pale ,for the building of fortified houses.John Cornwalsh obtained a 10 pounds grant in 1465 for the building of Dardistown Castle. Open on selected days throughout 2013. Jan 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26. Feb 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28. Apr 4, 6, 11, 13, 18. May 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30. June 6, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29. Aug 1, 3, 8,10, 15, 17-25, 29-31. Sept 5,7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28, 10am-2pm By arrangement in advance.
