Cú Roí mac Dáiri was a legendary Irish hero traditionally associated with Cathair Chon Roí (the fortress of Cú Roí) an inland promontory fort on the western edge of the Slieve Mish mountain range in County Kerry. In Irish myths and legends he is usually depicted as a warrior king with magical abilities and frequently appears in the shape of an ogre. Cú Roí met his end in a battle with Ireland's most famous Celtic hero Cú Chulainn and it was on the blade of Cú Roí's son that Cú Chulainn in turn met his. Although it is called a cathair, which in Irish translates as a stone fort, it is in fact a Dun (a close). It stands on a mountain top, almost 610m high, in Beithineach near Camp, County Kerry. From the top there are magnificent views of Kerry below. It comprises of a triangular area of land with high steep cliffs on two sides, difficult to scale and easy to defend. This attraction is complicated to find please ring in advance for directions.
