The public harbour at Hodson Bay is sheltered and has good berthing facilities. At the entrance is Hodson's Pillar which is the legendary centre of Ireland. The Hodson Bay Hotel is at the Harbour and has excellent facilities including a fine leisure centre. The Athlone Golf course is at the rear of the hotel. It is situated on Lough Ree.
