Gougane Barra Forest Park is located in the Shehy Mountains and extends from the sheer slopes of Cuain Rua through Green Valley Desmond, to the shores of Gougane Barra Lake in County Cork. It comprises of 138 hectares in area and contains approximately 20 different tree species as well as a wide variety of grasses, sedges and herbaceous plants. Wildlife is abundant in the park. The River Lee flows from its source within the park to Gougane Lake. Facilities provided include 5km of motor trail, 10km of hill walks, vista points and nature trails. The park is open at all times, except when tree harvesting is in progress. There is parking, picnic areas and guided tours by arrangement. Orienteering and special events are by permit only.
