The Raven Nature Reserve is a major part of a sand dune system situated at the north side of the entrance to Wexford Harbour. The dunes form the eastern part of the North Slob, which is included in the Wexford Wildfowl Reserve - in included in an EU twinning programme, the area was designated a statutory Nature Reserve in 1983 with a total area of 589 ha. Although modified by afforestation, the dunes have particularly interesting flora and a rich invertebrate fauna, including species that have disappeared elsewhere, and have been rated as of national importance. The overall conservation objectives are the protection and improvement of the scientifically valuable character of the system and the protection of rare plants and animals
