Slieve Aughty Riding Centre

Surrounded on 3 sides by 2,000 acres of state owned forestry in County Galway, Slieve Aughty Riding Centre has over 30 well-schooled horses and ponies of all types, including Irish hunters, cobs, Arabs and Connemaras. They have suitable mounts for complete beginners, experienced riders, adults and children. All forest horse riding treks are guided and tailored to the rider’s ability. They can last from one hour to one day. Qualified instructors are available for dressage, show-jumping and cross country lessons, and riding holidays can focus on exploring the scenic countryside or intense instruction. Catering for families, Slieve Aughty welcomes complete beginners and non-riders, for whom walking with a donkey, golf, fishing, bicycle rental and more can be organised. For adventurous riders, the cross country course offers more than 40 natural obstacles, banks, water jumps and stone walls spread out over 20 acres of open field and forest. The 30x50 metre all weather arena provides a great warm up and instruction area. All riders are required to wear safety approved horse riding helmets, and body protectors must be worn when cross country jumping. The horse riding centre has a selection of boots, gloves, and helmets for guest use, although they strongly recommend guests bring their own equipment to ensure fit and availability. Next to the stables is a locker room, classroom and toilet/shower room where guests can wash before a meal and store their personal belongings. In the yard is a new arts and crafts room, built in 2010 completely from recycled materials, available for rent, birthday parties, and craft classes.
