Ireland’s famous fish and chips shop Beshoffs was founded by Ivan Beshoff, a Ukranian-born seaman in the navy of Tsar Nicolas II, who took part in the ill-fated mutiny on the battleship Potemkin in 1905, and arrived on Irish shores sometime in 1914. He opened his first chip shop in 1922 on Usher’s Quay in Dublin, and today Beshoffs are among the capital’s favourite chippies.
