Nobber —County Meath
Nobber, in the very north of the county, was the birthplace of Turlough O'Carolan, composer, poet and the most famous of all Irish harpists. While still a child he was blinded by smallpox. Thus he was freed from the labour's of work in the fields and allowed to concentrate on developing his musical genius. Each year in October the O'Carolan Harp Festival takes place in the village.
