Mountnugent —County Cavan

Mountnugent lies not far from the shores of Lough Sheelin. In the Middle Ages the lake was a border between the Anglo-Normans and the O'Reilly family. The remains of Crover Castle date from this time. The village lay on an old coach road between Cavan and Granard and was originally known as Daly's Bridge.
It was named Mountnugent in honour of the local landlord.
