Leenane is situated where the long (16 km), narrow Killary harbour and the broad Inagh Valley almost meet in Connemara, Leenane feels the shade of the Maamturk Mountains at its back as it enjoys some splendid views of the Mweelres Mountains in County Mayo across the dark blue waters of the harbour. Leenane is also known for its Outdoor Pursuits Centres.
