Kilbaha —County Clare

One of the tiny fishing villages sprinkled along the Loop Head peninsula. Nearby at Kilbaha, in Moneen Church, the Little Ark, a moveable wooden church used in the Famine-era is preserved. Devised in 1852 by local priest Fr. Michael Meehan to enable Mass to be celebrated on the foreshore between high and low water where harsh property laws could not be enforced. Fr. Meehan thus foiled the efforts of the bigoted local landlord to prevent Mass being celebrated in the area. On a clear day, the mountains of Kerry are easily visible from Kilbaha.
