Glangevlin —County Cavan
The small hamlet of Glangevlin lies in a beautiful, almost alpine landscape. It has always been isolated, and it was one of the few areas not affected by the Great Famine. People came there from sixty or seventy miles away in search of food. It was also one of the last places in Cavan where the Irish language was spoken, down to the 1920s.
Three miles north - west of Glangevlin is the Shannon Pot, the source of Ireland's longest river.
