Clones —County Monaghan
Clones has many buildings and sites of interest to visit. The Church of Ireland and an early 9th/10th century High Cross with various scenes from both the Old Testament and New Testament on either side of the cross, which both dominate the Diamond.
Also Clones Fort, which dates back to pre-Christian times, it was the earliest manmade structure and was the fort for the local chieftains is another attraction of interest.
The County Library, which used to be the Courthouse which was built in 1840 it still bears the initials of the landlord at the time Tomas Lennard on its iron work.
Clones golf club, which consists of nine holes, is situated in Hilton Park with wonderful views. The Hilton Park Victorian Gardens provide people with wonderful walks through herbaceous gardens.
Also local writer Patrick McCabe who is renowned for his book The Butcher Boy filmed his book here in Clones.
