Belfast City

Rejuvenated and revived, Belfast is a buzzing city with a unique atmosphere that’s well worth a visit

Need to know

Everything you need from banking hours to tourist information centres

Banks

Hours are generally Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4.30pm with some open on Saturday morning. Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) dispense cash at hundreds of locations, including banks, garages, and shopping centres. Using a credit card in an ATM is an easy way of obtaining sterling if you are travelling from the Republic of Ireland or Europe. Bureau de change can be found in larger bank branches, travel agencies, the Belfast Welcome Centre (47 Donegall Place), some tourist information centres, big hotels and a few visitor attractions.

Car Parking

Multi-storey and off-street car parks have hourly tariffs depending on location. On-street pay and display zones are clearly marked. Pay attention to restriction notices that display morning and evening rush hour clearways and bus lanes when in operation.

Pub Hours

Generally Monday to Saturday, 11.30am to 11pm; Sundays from 12.30pm to 10pm. Many bars in Belfast have later opening hours on Thursday to Saturday. Children are not permitted on licensed premises. No alcohol may be served to under 18s.

Public Transport

The two main bus companies operating in Belfast are Metro (serving the city and surrounds) and Ulsterbus (serving the whole of Northern Ireland and Belfast suburbs).

Shopping Hours

City Centre shops generally open Monday to Saturday, from 9.30am to 5.30pm (Thursday until 9pm). Some larger stores open Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. Neighbourhood stores and garage forecourt convenience shops often open much longer, 24 hours in many cases.

Tourist Information

Check out the Belfast Welcome Centre (47 Donegall Place, Belfast BT1 5AD) for tourist information.
