Absolutely FREE musical things to do in Belfast!
In the words made famous by John McEnroe all those years ago, "You cannot be serious", well, yes, actually we are. There are gigs, events and whole festivals all over this fantastic city where you don’t have to spend a penny.
We've got larks in the parks, music on the buses, jazz in the Square, laughs on the street and all manner of festivals.
The Festival of Fools in late April will explain the crazy costumes, live music and roars of laughter you’ll hear all around the city. Nothing but the quirkiest and most astounding street theatre acts are rounded up, from all over the world, to entertain the streets of Belfast with hilarious comedy, dance and cooking demos (with naked chefs of course).
Féile an Phobail Festival is a community festival in August that’s jam-packed with free carnivals, debates, workshops and exhibitions all around West Belfast.
And we’ve got even more good reasons to hit the town in Belfast, at no cost to you, check these out:
Traditional Music Sessions
On any given evening, the sounds of bodhràns, banjos and fiddles can be heard leaking out of the various trad sessions going on in Belfast pubs. All these are completely free as well, but we would suggest you have a pint or two in you by the time it comes to the whole pub joining in! Try The Botanic Inn, McHugh’s or Laverys Bar and Gin Palace.
MTV Belfast Music Week
Belfast's first ever Music Week takes place from 12th-19th September. MTV will be helping Belfast celebrate on Sunday 19th by hosting a free gig at the Waterfront Hall featuring Mark Ronson and 'The Business Intl'. Free tickets can be applied for online
Craft Fair and Jazz Sundays
Victoria Square reckons Jazz is the perfect ambient music for shopping! So every Sunday, you can browse their diverse craft market of furniture, artwork, jewellery and cupcakes, to the smooth sounds of that week’s Jazz musician.
Open House Festival
Open House in the Cathedral Quarter of Belfast offers live Irish and American music to all visitors, including some fab free performances, workshops and master classes with the experts. (7 – 12 Sept)
