Description

Kilkee Clare - Ireland West

Purecamping, is a family-run eco-campsite set in the small village of Querrin, Kilkee, Co. Clare, overlooking the Shannon Estuary. We are nestled into the south side of the Loop Head Peninsula, designated as a European Destination of Excellence (EDEN) in 2010 (see: http://www.irelandseden.ie). Our campsite features the camping field and an emerging 10-acre native woodland. At its centre is a ring fort, which is a registered national monument. Purecamping is about giving our guests a pure experience of outdoor life and camping as it should be and allowing you to tread lightly on the earth, albeit for a little while. It offers you an escape from busy complicated lives and hopes to bring you some peace and clarity. The camp embraces the Leave No Trace program (see: http://www.leavenotraceireland.org/) and sustainable practices such as rainwater harvesting, solar heating, and composting toilets. In January 2013, we were awarded Gold standard by Ecotourism Ireland, which currently is the only certifying body in Ireland that is recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (http://www.gstcouncil.org), for more details, see: http://www.ecotourismireland.ie. Stay in our pre-erected furnished canvas bell tents, or bring your own tent and camp in the native woodland. For the bell tents, you can go with the deluxe option that includes all bedding, or bring your own favourite pillows and duvet. Some bell tents even have little wood-fired stoves to keep you toasty in the shoulder months of the season. We have a funky 12m geodesic dome for recreation, allowing you to weather independent. We have a campers' kitchen with wood-fired pizza oven, a gas stove and solar-heated water. Enjoy our camp sauna and evenings by the campfire. We are pet friendly, but we do insist on visiting dogs being controlled as we have pets ourselves, including 3 friendly dogs, 3 cats, and some hens and a cockerel. So, depending on demand, fresh eggs are a possibility! Our facilities include a modern toilet and shower block with standard facilities, with our hot water being supplied by a combination of wood firing and solar. We also have an eco-block that features indoor/outdoor showers and composting toiltets. So the choice is yours! We have a small play area for the kids and a book exchange in the dome. In our reception, we have lots of reference books available providing information on the local heritage, both built and natural. We also feature an electric car charging point. Kilkee is just 7km from Purecamping, with its Blue Flag beach and amazing cliff walks, as well as a number of good hosteleries and restaurants. The fishing village of Carrigaholt is 8kms from Purecamping and it is home to Dolphinwatch Carrigaholt, a Fáilte Ireland approved, Gold standard eco-award winning local business (see: http://www.dolphinwatch.ie). Loop Head lighthouse, which is open to the public now, is only a short drive away, as are the beautiful towns and villages of Kilkee, Carrigaholt and Kilbaha.
