Description

Cloughjordan Tipperary North - Ireland West

Cloughjordan House, home of Peter and Sarah Baker is a beautiful 400 year old House and is within walking distance of Cloughjordan village. Home to a wonderful Cookery School, the House has 5 guest rooms, cosy log fires in the reception rooms and Sarah’s renowned breakfasts to look forward to. The House is steeped in history as Cloughjordan derives its Gaelic name from the legend that a stone from the River Jordan is buried in the foundations of the 400 year old Norman tower that today is the family kitchen of the Baker family! When you arrive at Cloughjordan House you become part of the furniture and whilst we will pamper you with delicious afternoon teas or dinners using home grown or local artisan produced foods (we are members of Good Food Ireland) you can wander into the kitchen at anytime, have a chat, make a cup of tea and soak up the atmosphere that a 400 year old house exudes. Combine your stay with a Cookery class or course in the renowned Cloughjordan House Cookery School run by Sarah who trained in the world famous Ballymaloe Cookery School. Embrace all that is good about delicious wholesome locally grown and sourced ingredients. Cookery classes are very much hands on so that when you eventually sit down to eat you can take immense pride in enjoying the fruits of your own labours. Cloughjordan has become nationally and internationally famous as home to Ireland's first Ecovillage project. Guided tours are available through the Ecovillage which is 50 metres from the House and once you have finished there you can wander through the main street of Cloughjordan and sample the regulation pint of Black and ‘craic’ in any one of the 4 public houses. Monday nights are traditional music nights but you can be sure that there will always be a willing musician not too far away. If you decide you really want to make a night of it, we are very happy to organise to collect you from the pub but would recommend walking (we are 300 metres from the nearest Pub and the teasing at Breakfast may not be worth it!) Wonderful walks and cycle routes abound in the greater Cloughjordan area (we can supply wellies or bikes). Lough Derg is a mere 15 miles away with great seasonal fishing and boating activities either pleasure cruisers or yachting at Lough Derg Yacht Club in Dromineer.
