For a tranquil or active vacation on Cape Clear Island, budget travellers can stay at Cape Clear Youth Hostel. The building dates from the 1600s, but underwent a major renovation in the 20th century. The hostel can accommodate 42 guests in a variety of rooms, all of which include bedding and stunning views of the sea. There is also a large self-catering kitchen, laundry facilities, central heating, lounge with open fire and games, dining room and Internet access. The beautiful island of Cape Clear offers both peace and quiet, and plenty of activities. Visitors can spend their time in pubs, shops, cafes and restaurants, or experiencing whale- and dolphin-watching trips, snorkelling, kayaking and fishing. The island is also home to many historical sites, including Dun an Oir, the Cape Lighthouse and Napoleonic Signal Tower.
