Set on the banks of the River Moy, in Foxford County Mayo, the Mayfly Hotel and its surroundings are an idyllic expression of raw rural beauty, hosting some of the best fishing in Ireland. Foxford is an angler’s paradise, with an abundance of salmon and sea trout teeming its nearby waters. The hotel is the hub of angling on The Moy, with great connections to all the best local ghilles and some of the world’s finest salmon fisheries and only 50 yards from the world famous Tiernans Fish & Tackle shop. Each bedroom of the hotel has been completely refurbished with a soothing interior, complete with state of the art deluxe bathrooms, television, direct dial telephone, hair dryer and tea & coffee making facilities on request. Also in the hotel is the Poachers Bar & Restaurant, the trendiest watering hole in the vibrant town of Foxford. The River Moy is rated as one of the best salmon rivers in Europe, with catches of between 8,000 and 10,000 wild Atlantic salmon annually to the rod and line. This is, of course, fishing country but there is also a plethora of golf courses to explore and hikes to do. Nearby is the start of the Foxford Way, an 86km long route with the Ox Mountains on one side and the unique Nephin Mountain on the other, it is one of Mayo’s finest walks. For those interested in heritage there is the Foxford Woollen Mills Visitor Centre or the Michael Davitt Museum.
