Soak up the atmosphere of one of Ireland’s most peaceful and relaxing areas, where the pace of life is slow and a powerful beauty surrounds you

  • Lough Macnean, County Fermanagh

    Discover the Lakelands

For an utterly relaxing break, wind slowly along Ireland’s waterways and soak in the magnificent Lakelands: the region extending from the Shannon Estuary in the Southwest to Belleek in Fermanagh. The tranquillity of the waterside makes for journeys to be savoured, whether it be a leisurely cruise from Leitrim’s Carrick-on-Shannon, or staying high and dry over Fermanagh’s Lough Erne on a Lakeland Seaplane Tour. The region’s lapping liquid highways are studded with historical and natural highlights – even below ground. The Marble Arch Caves are riddled with underworld rivers, waterfalls, winding passages and lofty caverns. Lake island are the breadcrumbs of discovery here, from the monastic remains of Devenish Island and the curious stone figures of White Island in Lower Lough Erne, to Belle Isle cookery school in Upper Lough Erne.

The Lakelands region incorporates parts of the following counties: Fermanagh, Tyrone, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim South, Roscommon, Laois West, Westmeath, Longford, Offaly.
