Rock of Cashel
The Rock of Cashel is one of Ireland’s most spectacular archaeological sites – a collection of medieval church buildings and fortresses set on top of a limestone outcrop rising out of County Tipperary’s Golden Vale. It is a significant historical site and for 600 years was the power-base of the kings of Munster. Many of the old church buildings still survive and a gentle trek to the top of the Rock offers wonderful views around the 12th century round tower, High Cross and Romanesque Chapel, 13th century Gothic cathedral, 15th century Castle and the restored Hall of the Vicars Choral.
