Inishturk —County Galway
Inishturk is a small attractive island, 5km x 2.5km, and located 9 miles (14.5km) off the west coast of Mayo between the Islands of Inishbofin and Clare Island. It has a lovely harbour, a fine beach and many interesting archaeological sites.
Inishturk is a paradise for the outdoor enthusiast - it is a painter's paradise; ornithology enthusiasts will be enthralled by the number of bird sancturies on the island; the cliff flora of Inishturk is of international importance; it is ideal for deep sea diving; boat trips to the neighbouring Islands; Celtic and early christina fortified habitations are to be found and a fulachta fiada has been located on the island.
Located on the east side of the island are 'Tranaun' and 'Curraun' - sandy beaches which boast one of the clearest blue waters in Europe. Completely sheltered by coves, they are ideal for young and old alike.
The rugged landscape will delight the walker who can ramble around the Island at one's leisure and explore the many small country lanes that span the Island.
The waters off the west coast of Mayo offer excellent bait for fishing enthusiasts. Boat trips can be arranged locally.
