Ten-day multi-layered authentic festival - a celebration of landscape. Connemara walkabout, Fun Run, etc. Lots of traditional music with the Kane sisters, Mick Kinsella, Dessie O'Halloran, Mary Staunton, Tola Custy, etc. Music and sean nós dance workshops, art exhibition in Connemara National Park. Vibrant schools programmes are also part of the week. This is the 26th year of the Connemara Bog Week, and lots of special events are planned for this 25th birthday. The Connemara Walkabout is the feature event of the Whit weekend. This event consists of three gentle days of walking in a magical landscape in the company of scientists, musicians, poets and artists. This multi-disciplined team will explore the notion of landscape together. They will talk, walk, and play tunes out in the landscape. A schools programme runs throughout the week and the launch of the Connemara Lamb Pie takes place in Renvyle House Hotel. One of the special events for Bog Week will be two cycle races which are being run in conjunction with Western lakes Cycling Club. There will be two days of cycling - a 65km event - The Connemara Bog Week Grand Prix on Saturday, 23rd May at 16.00, and a 100 km event - The Gogarty Cub on Sunday, 24th May at 12.00 noon. Sign in at The Bards Den, Letterfrack, for each event. These events put cycling on the map in the Connemara area and give support and encouragement to local riders such as John James Flaherty and John O'Halloran who have been wonderful advocates for cycling, a considerable sport in Connemara.
