Explore the cultural cornerstone of Ireland where you’ll find heritage and history, spectacular sights and breathtaking scenery

  • River Liffey, Dublin

    Living history on your doorstep

The East Coast is one of the most varied and beautiful regions on the island of Ireland. Extending outwards from the Republic of Ireland’s cool and cosmopolitan capital city of Dublin, the East Coast never fails to delight. The heritage city of Kilkenny, for instance, is one of the region’s biggest draws thanks to its elegant castle dating back to the 12th Century and its idyllic location on the edge of mesmerizing scenery. The southeast of the region is reputed to be known as the one of the country’s sunniest areas, and always wows visitors with its exceptional beaches framed by rolling green hills or craggy mountains. The Wicklow National Park boasts a dramatic wilderness, while the river valleys of the Boyne, Liffey, Slaney, Barrow, Nore, Suir and Blackwater offer a quiet, tranquil and unspoiled slice of rural Irish life. All outdoors sports can be enjoyed, with golf particularly well catered for at internationally renowned courses. And if you’re a racing fan, the Curragh, Punchestown and Laytown Strand courses stage the country’s top festivals and race meetings right throughout the year. The East Coast region incorporates parts of the following counties: Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Laois, Kildare, Meath, Louth, Wicklow, Tipperary South, East Cork, Cork City, Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford.
