Monasterevin —County Kildare
Monasterevin is an angler's paradise especially for the game and coarse fishing enthusiasts. The town is an historic town located on the beautiful River Barrow and Grand Canal. It is named after the 6th century St. Evin, who established a monastery there. This is a town of many bridges, the oldest being the Ballagh or Pass Bridge. It also has the unusual lifting bridge and the aqueduct over the Barrow. The Monasterevin Aqueduct and Riverside Park carries the Grand Canal over the Barrow River. Places of interest include Moore Abbey, which was home to the 12th century Cistercian Abbey and once home of Count John McCormack. This is a lovely place to while away a few relaxing hours in tranquil settings.
