"The Burren Peaks Walking Festival gives walkers a choice of walks over the weekend. The 'A' walk is for the very experienced walker and will take walkers over the Burren Peaks (approx 9 hrs); the 'B' r B walks are for the experienced walker and take walkers on a walk approx 5 hours of walks; while the C walkers can enjoy a two hour stroll and take in a visit to one of our many local attractions - these walks are family friendly. The festival kicks off on Friday evening with an opening reception where all walk details are given out to walkers. Throughout the weekend a 'Riches of Clare Experience' takes place with traditional Irish music, song and dance; visits to heritage sites; the local crafts fair; and The Ballyvaughan Farmers market. The festival opening reception will take place in An Fear Gortha, Tea & Garden rooms, The Pier Ballyvaughan on Friday 28th at 8pm with guest speaker Dr Brendan Dunford. On Saturday and Sunday... The Grade A walks are across some of the Burrens finest peaks taking in the highest peak Slieve Elva 1134ft .These walks will be approx 8 hr walks for the experienced hill walker. The Grade B walks will take approx 4 to 5hrs with a choice of 3 grade B walks across and into the heart of the Burren each day, taking you by fairy forts, along where hidden treasures were found and ancient monuments stand. The Grade C walks are suitable for all the family taking you on a trail walk each day and visiting Aillwee Cave and experiencing the Burren Birds of prey or going on to see Caherconnell stone fort and enjoy the sheep dog trials. In the evening after your walk, enjoy some good food and traditional music in the local pubs before retiring for the evening to your accommodation. The festival is made possible by the goodwill of the local landowners, who have given the Ballyvaughan Fanore Walking Club permission to walk across their property for this event. It is supported by Shannon Development, Failte Ireland, The Sunday Times & Clare Sports Partnership. The club looks forward to walking with you during the festival. All walkers will receive a commemorative Peaks T-shirt and certificate. Refreshments served after each walk at the festival base. The club will be providing transport to/from a walk where needed. The Ballyvaughan Fanore Walking Club takes great pride in the Burren area so please remember… Leave nothing behind but your shadow. Take nothing home but your memories and the mud on your boots.
