MOUNTAINS TO SEA DLR BOOK FESTIVAL A stellar line up has been announced for Mountains to Sea dlr Book Festival which takes place from the 4th to 9th of September in various venues throughout Dún Laoghaire. Highlights in this years’ fantastic festival line-up include Booker Prize winners Howard Jacobson and John Banville, IMPAC winner Gerbrand Bakker, and Pulitzer winner Philippa Gregory reading from their novels. There will also be readings by superb writers such as Jonathan Dee, Esther Freud, Daniel Woodrell, David Mitchell and Katie Fforde. The highly anticipated writing for TV event features the writers of the hit TV shows Borgen and Mad Men, with a number of one-on-one writing workshops available for applicants. RTÉ Radio 1’s Sunday Miscellany returns with its fantastically popular show, while Liam Carson will present Imram, the Irish readings extravaganza with special musical guests. The poetry line-up includes legends such as Mark Doty, Paula Meehan, and James Fenton, with the latter delivering the keynote address on Thursday 6th. The Transtromer tribute on Sunday 9th features a stellar panel including Seamus Heaney, while the Strong Award will be presented later that day. The Poetry Now strand also includes the Itinerant Poetry Library and the Zebra Film Festival from Berlin while also including the Irish Times Award, and using some stunning new venues, such as the Maritime Museum. The family and schools programme includes appearances by major authors Derek Landy and Robert Muchamore. It includes an event curated by teens for teens, and a number of different workshops for aspiring authors and illustrators. The hugely popular Monster Lunch returns, as does the Picture Book Picnic for younger children, supplemented this year with the Where’s Wally Family Trail. Fans should look out for Marcus Sedgwick, Philip Reeve, and Marita Conlon McKenna, amongst others. Now in its fourth year, the festival has become firmly established on Ireland’s literary calendar, and this year’s programme looks set to further endear it to a growing number of fans. Ticket prices have been held at previous levels, while a number of new venues have been introduced. All ticketing is via the website mountainstosea.ie or paviliontheatre.ie.
