25th Loop Head Loop Charity Cycle

29 September 2013

The Loop Head Loop Leisure Cycle has successfully taken place over the past 24 years. It showcases the unique scenery of the peninsula and villages and towns therein and is recognised as one of the finest areas to cycle not just in Ireland but worldwide. It is an area that is bicycle friendly with only minimal vehicular traffic. The cycle has the option of a shorter loop cycle, 85 kilometres, from Kilrush round to Kilkee and back to Kilrush, or the larger loop, 125 kilometres which also incorporate Doonbeg, Cree, Kilmihil, Killimer. It is the only such cycle in the region (whilst there are numerous such events taking place in north Clare). It is the organisers hope to develop the Loop Head cycle in a similar way to the Ring of Kerry cycle with cyclist encouraged to take breaks in the various villages and towns along the way. The organisers, the West Clare Cycling Club, will provide changing facilities and food and refreshments for participants in Kilrush as well as refreshment stops in Loop Head and Doonbeg. It is intended to also donate the funds raised from the cycle to local hospice services and the Irish Hospice Foundation who are supporting the event.
