Race of the South in Walderstown, Athlone is a round of the Irish Championship Motor Cycle Road Racing. This road race takes place on closed public roads with eleven races on Sunday. Competitors come from all over Ireland and overseas including England, Scotland, Wales and the Isle of Man. Bikes range from 125cc to 1010cc with speeds of close to 200 miles per hour with all the top names in motorcycling taking part. This is one of the largest sporting events in Westmeath and the race attracts large crowds from Ireland and abroad. Roads close on Saturday for practice at 12.30pm and 11am on Sunday with the first race at 11.15am.
