Guinness Cork Jazz Festival
Cork City
25 Oktober 2013 - 28 Oktober 2013
The annual Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is one of Europe's best - offering a range of music of wide appeal. Most of the major stars have appeared at the festival - from Ella Fitzgerald and Dave Brubeck to Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock. It always reflects the ever-changing face of jazz, moving forward with new sounds for contemporary audiences. Fans are promised a weekend of all styles of jazz and jazz related music in over 60 venues citywide, mostly free of charge. The city of Cork becomes Europe's jazz capital and 40,000 fans throng the venues, restaurants and the many attractions of this superb city. The music action is all pervasive, running day and night - and there is a big fringe element as well, with workshops, lectures, participation events and a Jazz Camp for young musicians. The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival has been called 'the jewel in the crown of Irish music festivals' and is one of Ireland's flagship events. Over 1,000 musicians from at least 20 countries perform over 500 sessions throughout the weekend - and the eclectic line up covers jazz, blues, world, roots, funk, soul, groove, electronica and other styles of improvised music. The festival slogan is 'Jazz - one sound, many styles'. The event is heading for its 35th year in 2013 when it will celebrate the first 'Jazz Gathering' in Cork with a special programme of events.
