Nicht nur die Männer der Insel haben ihren ganz eigenen Sport, auch die Frauen haben eine spezifisch irische Sportart entwickelt. Während Frauen Gaelic Football keine anderen Regeln hat, als der männliche Vorreiter, hat sich mit Camogie ein ganz eigenständiges Spiel aus den Ursprüngen des Hurling entwickelt.
Erste Erwähnung fand das Spiel 1904. Seither hat es sich mit eigenen Ligen und Fangemeinden etabliert.
