This is a quaint little village set in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. The village is long associated with the pilgrims who passed through here on the way to the monastic city of Glendalough. In 2001 the 30km Pilgrim Path from Hollywood to Glendalough, known as St. Kevin's Way, was opened and is a way marked way. The protestant church in the village has a vaulted roof from the 17th century. Other attractions in the area include the Blessington lakes. Just up the road beside Blessington one can participate in a wide range of outdoor activities - ranging from canoeing, sailing, orienteering, clay pigeon shooting etc. Also on the N81 northbound is Russborough House, one of the finest examples of a Historic Houses in the country and is well worth a visit. The house, which is beautifully maintained, contains paintings from the Beit Collection, Fine Furniture, tapestries etc. and this attractive seaside town is an ideal holiday centre for those interested in outdoor activities. In 2002 the local beach was awarded the EU Blue Flag - an award that is given to beaches of a very high quality. The town and its surrounds boast golf courses, a very active sailing club which caters for the smaller sailing craft and a motor Yacht Club for cruisers. The sea-shore is renowned for shore angling, bathing and walking.
