Edenderry —County Offaly
Edenderry is a market town on a spur of the Grand Canal and is adjacent to the source of the river Boyne. This town derives its name from the great oak woods that dominated the hill of Edenderry until the 20th century. The foundations of modern Edenderry were laid in 1802 with the arrival of the Grand Canal. Nowadays, boats cruise along the peaceful waterways from Edenderry to the Shannon.
