贝克特百年诞辰庆典活动
Experience a unique celebration of one of Ireland’s foremost writers, Nobel Laureate Samuel Beckett
Between April and May, Ireland is celebrating the centenary of one of Ireland’s literary geniuses, Nobel Laureate Samuel Beckett.
With a host of theatrical, literary and exhibition events lined up to take place, the centenary of Beckett’s birth is a timely moment in which to appreciate the magnificent work from a writer of global recognition and master of many genres.
Highlights include Ghosts at the Project Arts Centre, which opens on what would have been Beckett’s 100th birthday (13th April 2006); Concorde, in association with the National Gallery (23 April 2006), which is presenting a programme of Beckett related contemporary music; and, of course, the masterpiece Waiting for Godot at The Gate Theatre (26 April-31 May 2006).
Although one of his most well-known works, Waiting for Godot left some questions unanswered. When Beckett was asked to explain the significance of the title character, he replied: "If I knew, I would have said so in the play."
