Ireland has one of the strongest and fastest growing economies in Europe, which is why multinationals, such as Dell, Microsoft and Intel have chosen Ireland as their European base. To coincide with the international interest in the Irish economy, specialised English courses have been introduced to cater specifically for the needs of business people and executives from all across the globe. • English for teenagers and children

There are a wide variety of options available for teenagers and children. Summer Package Courses offer top quality language classes over a period of two to four weeks, and include cultural and sporting activities. Accommodation is arranged in carefully selected host families or in campus-style residential accommodation. The courses are generally all-inclusive and students can arrive as part of a group or individually.

Winter and Spring School Group Packages are normally run over a one or two week period, and include cultural and sporting activities. Usually, students arrive in closed groups and are accompanied by their teachers. Ireland's reputation for excellence in education is growing internationally, which has led to an increased demand for placements in Irish High Schools. Some language schools now offer preparation courses, High School Placement services and a full follow-up High School Guardianship service.

While some students come to Ireland for just one term, others stay for much longer periods and even stay on to graduate from Irish High School. From this, students generally progress to the Irish Leaving Certificate and move into third level Irish University programmes.

  • Activity language courses

Outside the traditional classroom focus, Ireland offers students the opportunity to enjoy a multitude of fun activities and sports while they learn English. Familiar sports, such as football and swimming are often combined with more unusual activities, such as horse-riding, windsurfing, sailing or even mountain-hiking! At weekends, students can join cultural and historical tours or join in organised discos and parties, where they can socialise with like-minded students conversing in one common language - English!

  • University Foundation Programmes

The Irish third level sector has developed an international reputation for excellence and high standards and, over the last few years, students from all over the world have been coming to Ireland to attend Irish universities. In response, colleges around the country have implemented an entry requirement for those seeking college places, so that prospective students can practise a sufficient level of English in their studies. The colleges require specific scores from a number of different courses, such as Cambridge, TOEFL, TOEIC or IELTS. To improve a student's chance of achieving the desired college place, many language schools in Ireland offer Foundation Programmes to prepare for these exams. The schools can also offer advice on suitable courses and will assist in preparation of applications for college places.

  • Work/study English

If you're motivated by the prospect of learning English, gaining an internationally recognised qualification and working part-time to improve your communication skills, then many language schools in Ireland have introduced Academic Year Programmes, which last from six to 12 months.

Generally, students follow a long-terms study plan focused on one of a number of exams, with either a paid or unpaid work experience component provided to offer students the chance to practise their skills in the real world. If work experience is not provided, students often decide to find their own part-time employment in bars, restaurants and cafes, so they can practise English and earn some extra cash at the same time!
